One of the most important religious celebrations we have in
Tetuan is Eid Al Adha, also popularly called ``Eid El Kbir‘‘ –the Great Feast- because it
has a significant value for Muslims . In Tetuan, as well as in other cities
in Morocco, most people buy a lamb or a sheep and prepare delicious sweets and cookies
in advance for the special occasion. Also, parents purchase new clothes for their children. After the
congregational Eid prayer early in the holiday morning,
families either convene for the sacrifice of the sheep or
do it indiviually at home. It is a typical Moroccan tradition to prepare a special
breakfast with the meat on the first day .Everyday has its own special dishes such
as mechoui, couscous and many more. However, the main philosophy behind thiscelebration is not only food but to revive the memory of
our Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and also to share a good part of the
lamb with the poor people who can’t afford to celebrate this event.
For us,« Eid Al Kbir »
is our favorite celebration becuase it has a lot of religious, cultural and
human values.
